In 1997, Kelly Aerospace acquired Honeywell's Rajay turbocharger line and thus obtained FAA/PMA certification on all Rajay turbochargers, components, and parts, enabling the company to provide worldwide distribution of those items.
Kelly Aerospace expanded its turbocharger "system" capability in September 1998 with its acquisition of Honeywellís aircraft turbocharger valves and controls manufacturing line. This particular acquisition was significant as it placed Kelly in the position of being the only certified supplier of a complete aviation turbocharger system, including the turbocharger units and their required control devices. The company continues to enjoy this competitive advantage today.
In September 2000, Kelly Aerospace purchased Honeywell's Garrett aviation turbocharger manufacturing line.
September 2010, Kelly Aerospace Energy Systems was aquired by Tailwind Technologies Inc. and formed the company Hartzell Engine Technologies (HET). The integration of this acquisition solidified Hartzell as the sole source provider of OEM turbochargers and related controls to GA industry, and by far the largest provider of replacement components to the aftermarket. Though repair facilities can overhaul and repair these items, no other company in the world offers approved replacement components.
